Artist's Statement
Wanting to be an artist resurfaced from observing R.C. Gorman's drawings. Since completing his portrait, I knew I had to express myself artistically, in addition to helping people with pain. At Cottonwood, I may have the only ART-THERAPY Studio ever… obviously, the best of both worlds.
Artist's Biography
Except for a 10 year stint in marketing/advertising, Al has been involved in health care for 36 years, including 7 years as a physician's assistant and 18 years focusing on neuromuscular pain therapy, his specialty.
Without art education available in rural elementary school or high school, Al didn't think it was practical or realistic to be an artist; consequently, he pursued art only as a hobby and is mostly self-taught.
Emerging from a 17 year art void two years ago, Al drew a portrait of the famous artist, R.C. Gorman. Virginia Dooley, former Dir. of Gorman's Navajo Gallery in Taos, wanted the portrait of Gorman for the gallery where it now hangs as a memorial to him.
Since the revival of his quest in art, interest in Al's stylistic portraiture work has increased while he has developed an interest in approaching a variety of subjects with various media.
