Stephanie Merchant Johnson

Artist Biography

Stephanie Merchant Johnson, a self-described "Jill-of-Many-Trades," puts her artistic talent to good use in many venues: painting (oils, acrylics, and airbrush), drawing (graphite, colored pencils, and charcoal), murals, calligraphy, whittling, decorating cakes, and even writing, where she won the YourHub Citizen Journalist of the Year Award in 2008 from the Gazette.

An art instructor for Bemis School of Art in the past, she currently makes "house calls" for private lessons--whether it's for homeschooled children or adults picking up a brush for the very first time. In addition to painting full-sized murals, she gladly accepts commissions for the usual pet portrait or still life, as well as unusual requests: puppet show props, logos on bass drum skins, and folk art on antiques.

She is excited to be opening her first studio outside the home at Cottonwood Center for the Arts, where she can rub elbows with other wonderful artists on a daily basis.

In her spare time, Stephanie enjoys volunteering every chance she gets, taking walks around Prospect Lake with her husband, and camping…as long as her hubby is close by to scare away the coyotes.
